Hunted all the way up til the end of the season to fill my last doe tag here, very thankful she cooperated with me the last morning.  Witnessed several great bucks over the last week of season, got a crop of 3 & 4 year olds that should make some significant jumps in antler growth this year.  Keep checking back for updates.  MATHEWS BOW GIVEAWAY WINNER ANNOUNCED:  BILL LOGAN NY HUNTER 2011-2012 SEASON WHO PAID IN FULL UP FRONT FOR HIS HUNT WAS REWARDED LAST EVENING IN THE DRAWING.  CONGRATS BILL!! What a great fall we had, several big bucks on the ground and many opportunities presented to my guys this past season.  We are beginning to find sheds here on our properties, several great bucks have made it through all the gun seasons and late muzzleloader, will be keeping a close eye on them and hopefully bringing you updates of the sheds we find and antler growth pics then eventually lead to Hit List Pics later in the summer. 2012 Season will be here before we know it, look forward to doing it all again in 2012-2013, thanks for the great ride in 2011.  Best of luck shed hunting and spending time with your family and friends this new year.

The Pre Rut is kicking strong here in Ohio, we just finished the first week of Buck hunters in camp and the guys had several opportunities at some great bucks.  Couple shot ops but bucks have a mind of their own, in close but bad angles, 170" stayed in a thicket snorewheezing several times at the hunter who rattled him in, and then one of my guys passed several great bucks up in hopes of topping his 146" from last year, it's definitely on here in Ohio, look for the bucks to start dropping, will keep you posted!!!

Here we go, just a few days prior to our opener here in Ohio, we have been seeing some great bucks in the past month.  In the past week several big rubs have shown up on our properties and a few scrapes already on the forest floor.  Look foward to all the hunters arriving in camp, keep checking back as we update the happenings here at CEWO '11.

Wow, this summer is flying by, it has been a very wet spring and early summer here at CEWO.  I was planning on putting in several food plots this spring and it has been a wash out.  I am able to finally get a few in with all the moisture in the ground so they should still be all right for the fall as long as we don't have a drought now.  The one good thing with all the rain is great antler growth.  We have been watching some incredible bucks for this time of the summer.  I am hoping to post some pics in the next couple weeks but there are some slammers growing this year.  Just a reminder we have a few hunts remaining check out 2011 Deer Hunts page to see what is still available, thanks!!

Have had some inquiries for some of the recipes my wife has used to feed my hunters the past couple years, so here is one of the more popular meals.

Venison Tenderloin Crock Pot Meal

Butterfly Venison tenderloins, make sure meat is not frozen

Brown Tenderloins in either a cast iron skillet or on the grill, I like to add just a dab of Liquid Smoke and a little Worchester Sause if using a cast iron skillet, don't cook too long, just sear the meat on a very hot fire

Once browned place the Tenderloins in a large Crock Pot and add 1 large can cream of mushroom  soup & a small can of onion soup, if you like.  I like adding any of the stock that has come off the meat into the Crock Pot from the skillet or you can add the mushroom soup and onion soup in the skillet before throwing it all in the crock pot, whatever is easiest for you.

Place the Crock Pot on low heat and stir occasionally throughout the day, serve with Mashed Potatoes & Green Beans, also the soups make a delightful gravy as well, the meat should melt in your mouth.  Thanks!!

Late Season Doe Hunts

Only one week left for the 2010-11 season to be over with, and in the past couple weeks we have concentrated on knocking down several antlerless deer (does, being careful not to shoot any buck fawns or shed out bucks),  I was fortunate to harvest 2 older does this  past week & in the picture above Maddie "Mad Dog" Long helped us bring our doe total to 37 at CEWO by taking her first doe, friend and local QDMA Branch President Dan Long sent me the highlights to the hunt as follows:

Great hunt with Mad Dog Long at Eric Ashcraft's CEWO.  This doe came in with two others and presented Maddie with a 15-20 yard shot.  The bolt hit a little low, but caught a major artery, as you can see in the blood trail picture.  Since we didn't get any organs, she was bleeding out and we jumped her once on the trail. 

We backed out and came back the next morning.  We found her a little farther from where we saw her last.  Coyotes already started munch'n on the hindquarters.  She aged at two and had a single buck fawn in the oven.  Based on the length, she was bred 16 NOV 11.

All in all, a great experience.

Deer Season Winding Down

Well, the season is winding down & we are still seeing a few racked bucks, but for the most part the bucks are shedding their antlers early this year.  We have seen several 1/2 racks and 4 or 5 without racks.  We have a very nice crop of 2 1/2 & 3 1/2 year old bucks to carry over into '11, a few 4 1/2 or older class bucks have made it thus far as well, looks like 2011 is gonna be another great season, thanks for all of you that  booked with me in 2010, can't wait to see what 2011 holds in store for us, please pass the word as  I have updated my hunts page and listed all the hunts that are available in 2011.  I will be sponsoring a Pro Atv racer named Chuckie Creech in the Extreme Dirt Track Series in 2011 as well, he has become a great friend and is really helping bring hunters my way while racing all over the USA, good racing in 2011!!!

 Wow, time flies by, bow season is under way.  We are already at the tail end of our first week of hunters, the bucks are starting to split up and we are seeing some chasing, the big boys are preparing for the rut, it won't be long and they will be sick in the head with doe fever.  Several good bucks spotted this week, just out of bow range, but that's bowhunting.  Working hard putting the guys onto a good shooter buck, keep you updated as the season goes along.  3 Total shooters spotted by hunters this week, next round comes in over the weekend, hope you have a great season!!!!

My daughter Sarah and I had a great hunt on the home farm, Sarah shot her first deer, a nice doe, I was so pumped for her, we had a great time!!! Very proud of her, this will be her first of many, Congratulations Sarah!!!

The rut is kicking strong here right now, seeing bucks chasing on all the properties,  some good shooter bucks spotted this week no shot opps yet, big bucks are coming out now checking and chasing does, hope to be submitting some more trophy pics here soon!!!
